Narrative

COVINGTON CO., AL – A 74-year-old woman died, and seven people sustained injuries last Sunday in a two-vehicle collision in northwest Covington County.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. along AL-55 near mile marker 42. This is just northwest of Red Level and about 76 miles southwest of Montgomery.

Police haven’t yet determined the cause of the crash. They say that a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 struck a 2024 Honda CRV, killing a passenger from the latter vehicle.

Authorities identified the deceased as Dessie S. Medley of Tennessee.

Medics transported three additional adults from the Honda to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

Two adults and two teens from the Mercedes required hospitalization; the extent of their injuries is also unclear.

A full investigation is underway.
