Narrative

ELBERTA, AL – Two people died, and two others sustained injuries Friday in a three-vehicle collision along the highway in south-central Baldwin County.

The multi-car accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. along US-98 in the city of Elberta. This is about 17 miles northeast of Gulf Shores.

Police say that a pickup truck rear-ended an SUV along the highway, which then caused the SUV to enter the path of a second pickup truck. The SUV was then struck head-on.

Both the driver an passenger in the SUV sustained fatal injures. Authorities identified the victims as 55-year-old Toni Robinson and 89-year-old Johanna Martin. Both women were from the city of Lillian, which is just east of Elberta.

Medics transported both drivers of the pickup trucks to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

It’s unclear if anyone will face charges in connection to the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
