Car wreck injures motorcyclist during funeral procession

BIRMINGHAM, AL – A car struck an off-duty police officer while he was escorting a funeral motorcade on Wednesday, according to CBS 42.

A UAB police officer was driving his motorcycle in a funeral procession at 65th Street North and 4th Court North when he was hit by a car. The accident happened at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday. The driver departed the scene after hitting the motorcyclist, who was taken to a nearby hospital for severe injuries.

The Birmingham Police Department is currently investigating the crash.
